01 GDPR and market research
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) affects all EU nationals and every organisation that handles their data. It has changed how data is collected, stored, processed and analysed — and therefore how market research is done. GDPR-compliant research is about handling personal data so that it does not reveal a person’s identity.
Research uses quantitative methods (surveys, questionnaires, interviews, focus groups) and qualitative methods (expressions, emotions, behaviour). Under GDPR, organisations must be careful not only with individual elements of personal data, but also with combinations of elements that could identify someone.
02 Purpose and fit
We identify how each piece of data we collect fits our business and research projects, and collect only what that purpose needs. For instance, your date of birth is used only to confirm eligibility and match age-relevant studies.
04 Consent you can see
We contact only people who have agreed to be invited to opinion and feedback surveys, and we say so explicitly when asking for consent. Agreeing to survey invitations does not mean agreeing to marketing emails or newsletters — those require a separate subscription.
- Are they the right people to contact?
- Will we get the information the research needs?
- Do we have permission to contact them?
05 Privacy links and third parties
Links to our privacy and security policies appear on the website and in survey invitations. If any personal data is shared with a third party, we declare it at the point of collection as well as on our website.
06 Retention and the right to erasure
We tell respondents how long research data will be kept. Once the retention period ends, data is destroyed to protect it from unauthorised use. You also have the right to ask us to erase (“forget”) the information we hold about you.
07 Where data is stored
We take care over where personal data of EU nationals is stored and who is responsible for it — including cloud storage, where responsibility between provider, vendor and customer must be clear. Appropriate safeguards apply to international transfers.
